About Ambrose Furniture
Who is Ambrose Furniture?
Ambrose Furniture is a family owned company and trusted brand that has been manufacturing bespoke, solid timber furniture out of Brisbane for over 35 years.
How would you describe the style of furniture you make?
The general style of furniture we promote would be considered ‘contemporary’. Ambrose used to be a big promoter of the classic ‘Colonial Pine’ style that went out of fashion in a big way back in the 90’s. Our customers keep up with today’s trends which means we do as well.
Where does Ambose Furntiure get its design inspiration from?
Our thousands of wonderful clients over the years. We do design our own
pieces for the showroom floor, however no idea is original. We usually draw
inspiration from our clients’ designs or something else that has inspired us.
Actually, for example – one of our old wholesalers approached us a few weeks
ago with some interesting stainless steel table bases, so now we have a really
cool, huge Tasmanian Blackwood dining table on our showroom floor with a big
shiny stainless steel table base, it looks fantastic!
Tell us about the materials you use?
What timbers are popular at the moment? Where do you source your timber from? We manufacture primarily from Tasmanian Oak and Tasmanian Blackwood, with Radiata Pine used for drawer casings. All of our timber comes from sustainable plantations in Victoria . At the moment, our Tasmanian Blackwood is immensely popular – the striking timber grain makes it perfect for feature pieces.
What stains and finishes do you use on your timber?
On our Tasmanian Oak, we use a 10% satin finish with a multitude of different stains (we also offer a ‘stain to match’ service, where we can stain according to furniture you currently have) and on our Tasmanian Blackwood, a 30% clear stain.
Who is your ideal customer?
Someone with an empty home.

Many of your sales are from custom orders. What is the benefit of purchasing a custom piece?
Having a piece of furniture that is not only tailored to your needs, but also a piece that you know is individual and unlike anything from any of the majors. This furniture is YOUR furniture. It’s something we’re very passionate about.
Why does Ambrose funiture offer in-home consultations?
We understand our customers aren’t furniture manufacturers or interior designers, just like we aren’t accountants, lawyers or doctors. Our job is to know our product and where it best suits. In saying that, we also understand the practicalities of our furniture – could your room maybe use more storage? Is your wall going to support
the floating shelving you want us to manufacture for you?
We offer it for free because we believe our product/service is our furniture, not
our knowledge and guidance.
Why should customers choose Ambrose Furniture over the likes of Fantastic
Furniture, Super Amart and Harvey Norman?
The majors have been great for us over the years. Rather than compete with
them like other independants do, we tailor ourselves around what they push and
offer a more competitively priced, bespoke design service. You can walk into Harvey
Norman, see what you want and buy it on the spot – which is completely fine, some
customers prefer to work like that. However, at Ambrose, you come to our showroom, draw inspiration from something on our showroom floor, or a picture of something we’ve done in the past and then we start designing from there – customers even bring us in pictures from competitors and ask us to replicate due to our competitive pricing. So in short, “why choose Ambrose over a major?” – I mean, at the end of the day, we have them beaten on price, we custom build to order, our quality is superior and we offer in-home design consultations – I hope we don’t sound too up ourselves!
How many people does Ambrose Furniture Employ?
Ambrose Furniture currently employs 2 management staff, 2 office staff and 4 factory staff.
Ambrose furntiure has been operating for 30+ years, What do you think the key to
success has been?
Being honest. A really generic answer, I know, but that’s really it in business. Keep
your margins fair and your quality at the top of its game and people will keep coming
back for more – business really is that simple when you’re genuine.
Social media is important these days, how can people connect with Ambrose
Furniture?
We were definitely slow to get into it, we have a growing presence on Facebook and also
Instagram, you can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ambrosefurniture1 and on
Instagram @ambrosefurniture. We’re looking to start offering promotional content, so if you’re
in the market for some cheaper-than-usual or even free furniture, give us a like/follow! I also keep both of those spaces updated with a continuous feed of finished and on-the-go projects, it gives our clientele a chance to see our inner workings and get a feel for what we’re all about.
Most importanly, how can customers get their hands on your products?
Our showroom carries limited stock, but we do offer it for sale. If you would like to get a bespoke piece manufactured, my suggestion is that you email us at sales@ambrosefurniture.com.au or call us on 07 3254 1877 with your required piece and some general design features/dimensions and we can go from there. I often work with customers that have no idea what it is that they want – that’s where our free in-home consultations come in handy.

About you
When you’re not working at Ambrose Furniture, where would we find you?
Me, personally? I’m 21 years old and I literally live in the valley, so either at a local bar/restaurant or at home working on Ambrose.
Where is your favourite place to visit on the Gold Coast?
I absolutely love Tugun. I’ve been holidaying there since I was a youngin’, it’s always great
to relax and unwind. Other than that, I’ve been tossing up the idea of moving to
Southport – I love the Gold Coast and making it home would be out of this world!
Favourite place to eat on the Gold Coast? Marie’s Pizza on a Friday night with the
cousins and a carton of Gold
