About Wheel & Spoon

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is the team behind Wheel & Spoon?

Wheel & Spoon is Daniel and Erin, husband and wife. We met when we where about 15, now we are 26 and are helping each other chase our dreams. Mine? To have my own business, that is unique and makes me happy (Wheel & Spoon) Dan’s? To write and direct his own films.

How did Wheel & Spoon come about?

Good question! It came not from a love of ice cream, but a desire to bring something fun and unique to the wedding and event hire industry. Since planning my own wedding back in 2011, I found a love for event styling and planning. Through trying to find my niche I came up with the idea of having a food cart, which evolved into Wheel & Spoon.

What was your inspiration behind Wheel & spoon? Why an ice-cream tricycle?

Inspired by the food carts of the early 1900’s we created a wooden push along cart with a freezer. We wanted something more practical and as luck would have it, we found an ice cream tricycle! I imported it from England and it landed on the shores of Australia five weeks later. Its a very charming little addition to any sort of party or event.

Tell us about your product range? The ice-cream, the cookies and every delicious detail?

Our ice cream (excuse me, gelato) comes from experienced Italians, who know what their doing. The cookies are made by us, using a specific ice cream sandwich appropriate recipe. Together, something amazing happens. Another delicious detail? Did I mention we do DIY sundae bars as apart of our hire options? Pick your ice cream, create your sundae!

You have made ice-cream into a very romantic affair, what do you love about ice cream?

The magic of ice cream is timeless and causes a person of any age to be giddy at the sight of it. I love all the possibilities of ice cream, the flavours, the textures and the different ways in which you can consume it.

You are a husband and wife team, how do you you find working together? And are you both romantics at heart?

We are romantics at heart and love working side by side.

A typical day for you involves?

Writing emails, posting on Instagram, preparing for our next events, baking cookies,

loading up the trailer and making some room in the freezer for even more ice cream,

so much ice cream!

What is the best part about working on Wheel & Spoon?

Having my own business, which I love and working together with my husband.

…..and the hardest?

Searching high and low to find the right ice cream cart.

What are your dreams for Wheel & spoon? Where would you like to see

Wheel & Spoon in 12 months/ 5 years? In 12 months I’d like to see us fully

booked out, working for Wheel & Spoon full time. In 5 years? well, I’d like to

see our tricycles franchised in a couple of different ways, all across Australia.

What advice do you have for others who are dreaming about starting their own small business?
