Tell us a little bit about yourself, who is behind Femme Body?

My name is Katharina Espinoza and I am a Gold Coast designer who enjoys being active, living a life filled with adventure and loves to bring out the confidence in women.

 

What is Femme Body and what inspired you to start your own active wear line?

Femme Body is a boutique active wear label for women. I simply couldn’t find a luxury women’s

active wear label with classic monochromatic pieces. I was inspired by the confidence I saw in

women along with feminine energy. Energy is such a powerful emotion and I feel for women it’s

important to recognise your energy flow and stand within your confidence.

 

Tell us about your range and the materials you use? Is it functional fitness clothing or just

fashion? The first range of Femme Body features 9 items with a monochrome palette

(The Monochrome Active Collection). I introduced this into my first collection as I wanted to

create luxe, classic items that can be easily placed into the active wardrobe and be worn all

year round by women.

 

I incorporated feminine, classic staples with mesh detailing in luxurious, lightweight fabrics. Some of the pieces I have also integrated a bamboo blend as it is soft, delivering a first class quality feel.

 

What is your design and creative process?

I like to create mood boards to refine a style, colour palette and themes of designs and I collect a variety of fabrics and review different textures and compositions. I design 15 - 20 pieces that I’ll cut down and choose which ones to place through to the sample process. I love receiving the sample range which is when I first get to see my new designs brought to life and whilst there can still be some tweaks, it just means I’m one step closer to launching the collection.

 

How do you test your products and who do you test your products on before you send them to production?

I initially test my fabrics with our manufacturing team to ensure they are the quality that myself and my customer’s expect. Once I am satisfied with fabrics and features, samples are produced which are then sent to me for final review. Products are then tested between a few close friends and I. Feedback is important to me and I always ensure I take all responses on board.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Who is the ideal ‘Femme Body’ woman?

Femme Body is designed for the active woman who looks for quality, luxurious pieces that make her feel and look good - She is stylish, confident and classic in her dressing.

 

If you could see your active wear on any celebrity or sports star, who would it be?

Margot Robbie – I love her energy, glow and of course she is also from the Gold Coast!

 

A typical day for you involves?

I work full time Mon-Fri so my day is always on the go! I always ensure I have an overview

of my week ahead so I am prepared and organised as much I can be – Sunday’s I reflect

on this and my week’s movements.

 

During the week I get up at 5am and exercise – whether this be a walk or some sort of

HIIT session. I will then get ready for work, which is about 40 minutes away from where I

live. Besides working at my current job, my day will involve me researching and replying

to Femme emails, going to the post office on my breaks and staying up late packing

orders. I try and balance as much as I can, where I can to achieve and make the most out

of every day.

What is the best part about working on Femme Body?

Sharing a creative passion and being able to energise the confidence of other women!

Seeing a dream come to life and other women wearing my Femme Body collection is truly a wonderful feeling I cannot describe. Being able to work along-side other talented business people is also very rewarding.

 

…..and the hardest?

juggling my full time work and the business – I’d love to be able to grow Femme Body to the point where I can focus on it full time but until then – I work long hours in order to fulfil orders, engage on social media, answer emails and develop marketing and advertising campaigns.

 

What advice do you have for others who are dreaming about starting their own small business?

Be patient, persistent, have faith and BELIEVE. The journey is filled with ups and downs and it’s vital to surround your-self with positive energy and remind your-self of your goals and focus. Go after your dream and make it happen, you truly can excel to be anything you want to be. Even when the initial first step may be scary, you jump!

About you

 

What is your previous life + work background?

Prior to releasing Femme Body I completed an Associate Degree in Law (Paralegal Studies) and worked in a law office. Once finished my degree, I eventually stepped away from law, and I currently work full time for a construction company whilst running Femme Body.

 

Who do you look up to? Who inspires you?

My parents and close family – without them I wouldn’t be who I am, or where I am today and I’m very grateful for that.

 

How do you incorporate fitness into your everyday life? Why is health + fitness important to you?

I love walking in the morning – especially seeing the sunrise. It allows me to set my intentions for the day and have some ‘me’ time. I believe health + fitness is vital to everyone’s lifestyle – It’s about listening to your

body and being healthy so you can do all the things you love. It’s not just a fad,

life is about feeling good, it’s about looking after your wellbeing and your ultimate

happiness so you can live a longer, healthier life.

 

When you’re not working on Femme Body, where would we find you?

At my full time job! Haha – Or being outdoors going on some sort of adventure with

my friends.

 

Where is your favourite place to visit on the Gold Coast?

Snapper Rocks – It’s such a beautiful part of the Gold Coast and we are so lucky that

we get to experience beautiful beaches right at our doorstep.
